Christmas at Graceland

It's Christmastime at Graceland.  The annual event allows visitors to experience the magic and beauty of Elvis' iconic mansion with festive tours and events. Each year, the King of Rock & Roll would put up Christmas decorations in late November and leave them up through his birthday in January.  Christmas at Graceland kicked off this past weekend and will wrap up with Elvis' 90th birthday celebration the week of January 8th.

CMA Award Winners

Morgan Wallen was nominated in seven categories last night, and while he only took home one, it was the coveted Entertainer of the Year. Despite winning the top award of the night, Wallen was absent from the ceremony.  Even more amazing was actor Jeff Bridges mispronunciation of "Wallen" when he announced the award winner.  Online fans theorize he was imbibing.

Chris Stapleton was the big winner, taking home 3 of his 5 nominated awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Single and Song of the Year for "White Horse".

CMA To Honor George Strait Tonight

Country music's biggest stars will honor the King of Country at tonight's CMA Awards in Nashville.  George Strait is slated to receive the CMA's "Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award." The award is given to an artist who's known for their successful career in country music.  Previous recipients include Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Alan Jackson.   Look for a star-studded tribute to King George, though the CMA is keeping the performer list close to the vest.

Jamey Johnson Arrested in Tennessee

Jamey Johnson was taken into custody on Sunday according to WTVF Nashville.  The DA's office confirmed the arrest.  Johnson is accused of speeding and drug possession.  His bond is set at $5,000, but details are currently sparse as to the exact charges he's facing; the incident remains under investigation . Johnson's arrest comes just days after the release of Midnight Gasoline, the singer-songwriter's first full-length album in 14 years. In 2016, multiple members of Jamey Johnson’s band were arrested in Mississippi for possession of a controlled substance, but Johnson was not charged in the incident. In interviews this fall for his new album, Johnson said he's been sober for 13 years.  Johnson has no known other prior arrests.

*UPDATE 11/20/24

According to the arrest documents, Jamey Johnson was pulled over on Interstate 65 North in Williamson County, Tennessee shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday for doing 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. When at the window, the officer believed he smelled marijuana. Johnson admitted he had “been around marijuana.” A search found multiple bags of marijuana and more than “10  joints” in the vehicle.

The amount of marijuana Johnson had in his possession means the charges rose to a Class E felony. This is the least serious felony class, but can still come with up to 1 to 6 years in prison, even if it’s unlikely Johnson will serve this kind of time. The 49-year-old retired Marine was arrested, and eventually released on $5,000 bail.

Country Music Veterans

It's Veteran's Day today, a time to pause and honor the men and women who have sacrificed for this nation. Several of your favorite artists answered the call of duty.  Here are a few:

Willie Nelson joined the US Air Force after leaving school in 1950.

Johnny Cash was deployed in Germany with the Air Force from 1951 to 1954.

Jamey Johnson was in the US Marine Corps Reserve for 4 years after leaving college.

George Strait served in the US Army from 1971 to 1975 in Hawaii, ultimately earning the rank of corporal and helping to launch his country music career.

Craig Morgan is also a current member of our armed forces. The Redneck Yacht Club singer served for 17 years in the Army and Army Reserve and took part in the US invasion of Panama in 1989.  Morgan re-enlisted just last year on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Salute!!

Darius Rucker is a Swiftie!

Darius Rucker was at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy Saturday night, but this time he was in the audience.  Rucker took his two daughters to Taylor Swift's Era's Tour when it stopped in the Hoosier state this past weekend. Rucker had nothing but praise for Swift’s Indy performance. It turns out Rucker has a long history with Swift, revealing in a recent interview that he saw her perform with Brad Paisley back in 2007 when she was “just a baby.” Rucker said he told her, "You’re gonna be a superstar,” adding, “It was just obvious.”
